Ireland's Competition Authority has had a relatively quiet year, with low levels of fines for cartelists and few significant merger cases. While the authority was perhaps as much a victim of the economic crisis as the country's businesses, competition specialists say the agency's poor choice of cases and relatively meagre resources have led to a below-par performance in some areas last year.
