France’s competition regime was rejuvenated in 2009 with the creation of a new, single authority, handling both merger and behavioural work. The authority has made an aggressive start in priority areas such as transport and media. Litigation is on the rise due to the country’s successful leniency policy, and the year has seen an increase in state aid cases stemming from banking and industrial bailouts
