Dr Pat McCloughan is a divisional director with London Economics. Pat is a leading professional economist specialising in competition and divides his time between London Economics' Dublin, London and European offices. Pat led the expert economics advice on the following high-profile merger cases in Ireland, all of which were unconditionally cleared by the Irish Competition Authority: Glen Dimplex/AEPL (space heating), Galco/Sperrin (hot dip galvanising) and Britvic/C&C (soft drinks). Other major recent assignments have included work for private clients in respect of the UK Competition Commission's inquiries into personal current accounts and the UK grocery sector. Pat was also recently involved with in-house counsel in designing and implementing a competition compliance programme for two large multinational corporations and has provided expert economic advice to private clients in respect of NCA market studies in the EU. He has also provided litigation support through expert economic opinions.
Dr McCloughan has published articles in the leading industrial organisation journals, Journal of Industrial Economics and International Journal of Industrial Organization, as well as numerous other peer-reviewed economic journals. He previously taught Economics at the University of Liverpool and University of East Anglia in Norwich, UK.
