Bernardo Gouthier Macedo
Bernardo Macedo (PhD, University of Campinas, Brazil) is LCA’s managing partner dedicated to economics and law, with applied knowledge of service regulation, expertise in sectoral economics, and great experience in the institutional environment and the requirements of antitrust authorities and regulators.
Mr Macedo has led many projects for major firms in competition economics, economic litigation, regulation and commercial defence. Among the most recent high-profile Brazilian merger cases, Mr Macedo was in charge of the economic team who advised the parts towards the settlement reached in Camargo Corrêa/Cimpor (cement) and BrasilFoods (Sadia/Perdigão) – two of the most complex process in our jurisdiction.
Bernardo Macedo features in the 2012 Global Competition Review’s Who’s Who of Competition Economists, and attended the 2011 and 2012 ICN’s Congress as an NGA to the Brazilian delegation. He is an officer in charge of economic issues at IBRAC – Brazilian Institute of Competition, Consumer and International Trade Studies, the main professional association for competition lawyers and economists in Brazil. He is also a lecturer at the Continuing Education Programme in Law at GVLaw, Fundação Getúlio Vargas. Among other professional duties, Bernardo Macedo is a member of the board of Banco do Brasil SA, the biggest Brazilian bank, and was, in 2003, special adviser to the Ministry of Finance.
