Merck and Sanofi-Aventis announce animal health joint venture

US pharmaceutical firm Merck and France’s Sanofi-Aventis have announced plans to combine their animal health businesses in a joint venture, fulfilling a clause in Merck’s merger agreement with rival Schering-Plough.
