A mining company has sued US rail freight companies Burlington Northern Santa Fe and Union Pacific for allegedly conspiring to drive up costs for shipping coal.

Poland’s Court of Competition and Consumer Protection has rejected an appeal from two railway product manufacturers over a blocked merger. It is the first time the court has ruled on a merger prohibition appeal.

Italy’s Antitrust Authority has closed its abuse of dominance investigation of railway company Rete Ferroviaria Italiana (RFI) after deciding there was insufficient evidence that it had broken competition law.
House committee opposes railroad antitrust exemptions

The US House Judiciary Committee yesterday backed legislation that would remove antitrust immunity for freight railroad companies. The bill will now be sent to the full House of Representatives for consideration.
