Nevada’s attorney general has fined health insurer UnitedHealth Group US$1 million for breaching a merger commitment by acquiring customers from rival Fiserv Nevada.

A panel from the US Seventh Circuit court of appeals has shot down claims by institutional pharmacy Omnicare that claimed that health insurers PacifiCare and UnitedHealth Group conspired to lower the reimbursement rates they would pay Omnicare for pharmaceutical drugs.

Lawyers for health care provider Omnicare say a US district court did not properly weigh evidence it presented when attempting to prove United Health Care and merger target PacifiCare illegally colluded to gain more favourable Medicare reimbursement contracts.
