South Africa’s Pioneer Foods has settled a raft of cases with the country’s Competition Commission relating to its activities in the maize and wheat milling, baking, poultry and eggs markets. The company has agreed to pay the largest-ever fine levied by the authority.
Bread cartelist hit with record fine

South Africa’s Competition Tribunal has fined Pioneer Foods 196 million rand (US$26 million) for its role in a cartel that fixed the price of bread. It is the highest fine – as a percentage of turnover – imposed in South Africa to date.
