Biography: Competition
Neil is a partner in McMillan's competition and international trade group. He is also the chair of the market surveillance panel for Ontario's electricity markets.Neil's competition law practice focuses on merger clearances under the Competition Act; reviews under the Investment Canada Act; representation in cartel, abuse of dominance and other competition law proceedings; and advising on marketing, distribution, grey marketing and joint venture issues.
Neil's trade law practice includes anti-dumping and subsidy proceedings; NAFTA and WTO matters; export/import controls and trade sanctions; foreign corrupt practices; investor-state disputes; and lobbying on trade policy issues.
Neil has extensive experience in the financial services, pharmaceuticals and chemicals, food and beverage, energy and natural resources, transportation, broadcasting and information technology industries.
He is a member of the American Bar Association antitrust law section and its international task force. He is also the past chair of the International Bar Association's antitrust committee.
He has published Merger Law and Practice and is a member of the CD Howe Institute's Competition Policy Council.
Neil completed a doctorate in competition law at the University of Toronto in 1993. He is also named as one of the top 25 global competition lawyers in The Best of the Best.
