Biography: Competition
Lesley is a partner in the competition practice at Webber Wentzel. For a number of years she has been rated by various international directories as a leading practitioner in the field of competition law.Lesley has extensive experience in all aspects of competition law. She has broad experience in dealing with clients across a wide range of industries, including the financial services, mining, petrochemical, power and telecommunications sectors. Her expertise extends to assisting clients with competition matters in a number of African jurisdictions.
Lesley has written numerous articles, which have been published both locally and internationally, and has presented papers at many local conferences. She has also appeared on radio and television discussing competition law developments.
Lesley obtained her BA and LLB degrees from the University of Cape Town.
Lesley has been involved in a number of significant competition law matters including acting for or advising: DaimlerChrysler, Oracle and Siemens in relation to several merger transactions; both parties in the acquisition by HP of 3Com; Rio Tinto in relation to the South African leg of its acquisition of Alcan, and in relation to the hostile bid by BHP Billiton which was subsequently aborted; ArcelorMittal (then Iscor) in relation to its acquisition of Saldanha Steel, and subsequent acquisition by ArcelorMittal; Barclays on its acquisition of Absa; G4S in relation to a number of acquisitions; Impala Platinum, Anglo Platinum and Kumba in relation to a number of transactions in the mining industry; and participants in the airline, cement, construction, fertiliser, grain, liquid fuels and tyre industries, amongst others, in relation to various Competition Commission investigations.
