Biography: Competition
Randall's practice focuses on competition law, including in the context of federal laws regulating the communications, energy, financial services and transportation sectors and in matters related to intellectual property. In addition to advising on transactions and conduct subject to the Competition Act and the Investment Canada Act, Randall has appeared as lead litigation counsel before federal tribunals, such as the Competition Tribunal and the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission, and before Canada's Federal and Supreme Courts. Randall has acted for major domestic and international corporations, including Apple, Alcatel, Bayer, Bell Canada, Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, Canadian National (Railway), CIBC, Georgia-Pacific Corp, Great-West Life, HJ Heinz, Microsoft, McCain Foods, Stanley Works, Ticketmaster, United Continental, Visa Canada, and Yellow Pages, as well as major trade associations. Randall served as special counsel to the commissioner of competition (20052006), prosecuting major criminal and civil cases and serving on the Canadian Competition Bureau's senior management.Randall is a member of the Canadian Bar Association and the American Bar Association. He was past chair of the Canadian Bar Association's international law section and is currently vice chair of the Canadian Bar Association, national competition law section's criminal matters committee. Randall is a member of both The Law Society of Upper Canada (Ontario) and the Bar of Quebec and served as law clerk to (now) Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Canada, Beverley McLachlin.
Randall has been recognised by Chambers Global: The World's Leading Lawyers for Business 2011 and The Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory 2012. He is vice president and treasurer of the Canadian Institute for Advanced Legal Studies.
