Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer

Based in Hong Kong, Connie leads the firm’s IP/IT practice in Asia, with a particular focus on China, and is one of three partners leading its China antitrust and competition law practice group. She advises in the technology, media and telecoms sector, health care, and consumer and retail products sectors. Her focus is on commercialisation of IP rights, with a particular emphasis on how such agreements are affected by antimonopoly laws.

She advises clients including China Unicom, China Telecom, Sony, Hutchison, Goldman Sachs and Macquarie Bank on telecoms regulatory and competition issues under Hong Kong law. She has also advised various multinationals on competition issues (both merger control and behavioural advice) in the PRC. Connie gained extensive competition experience in Australia (where she practised for 11 years before moving to Hong Kong) advising on provisions of the Trade Practices Act, including restrictive trade practices, prohibitions on engaging in misleading or deceptive conduct, and prohibitions on acquisitions that would result in a substantial lessening of competition.

Connie is a co-author of the Hong Kong chapter of Getting the Deal Through: Telecoms and Media for each edition from 2002 to 2009; Dominance since 2008; and Merger Control for 2009. Connie is a regular contributor to Global Competition Review, for which she has written a special report.
