Dany H Assaf

Acting for domestic and international clients, Dany Assaf advises on all aspects of competition law and international trade and investment matters under the Investment Canada Act and has been involved in many of Canada's highest profile mergers and investigations. Dany has been recognised as a leading expert in the areas of competition law and foreign investment law, including being named as one of the world's 'Top 40 Competition Lawyers Under 40' by Global Competition Review as well as one of Canada's 'Top 40 Lawyers Under 40' by Lexpert magazine.

Dany has advised clients in a variety of industries and has been involved in many of Canada's most high-profile mergers and investigations, including Rio Tinto's acquisition of Alcan, Bowater's merger with Abitibi, Domtar's acquisition of Weyerhaeuser's fine paper business, Metro Inc's acquisition of A&P Canada and the Canadian carbonless sheet conspiracy case (Canada's leading domestic conspiracy matter). In the past, he also acted on the merger between Superior Propane and ICG Propane (Canada's leading merger efficiencies case).

In addition to his practice, Dany has been an adjunct professor of law at the University of Western Ontario and has written extensively on competition and antitrust matters, including co-authoring Competition & Antitrust Law: Canada & The United States (Third Edition) for LexisNexis Butterworths (2006), and serves as an associate editor of the American Bar Association's Antitrust magazine.

Dany also serves as an honorary board member of Scouts Canada and is involved in a variety of other social, cultural and charitable initiatives. Dany speaks both English and Arabic fluently.
