Italy's Antitrust Authority

Last year, the Italian government gave the country's Antitrust Authority greater responsibilities for enforcing the country's consumer protection laws. Five investigative departments were created within the authority, each charged with overseeing a range of key economic sectors. "In 2008, there has been a further rebalancing of resources in favour of consumer matters, since the number and the complexity of investigations relating to unfair commercial practices have significantly increased," the authority says.
